This course attempts to provide an opportunity to look at drama and theatre in particular historical contexts from late 19th century to the present day. This autumn semester we will focus on A Doll’s House, The Importance of Being Earnest, The Cherry Orchard, Six Characters in Search of an Author, and The Glass Menagerie. We will explore the various styles of the plays and how they have contributed to the innovations in both the acting practices and the textual constructions. We will also cover some of the highlights of each playwright’s career. A combination of lecture/discussion will be the main format of the class.
